Something is about to happen – potential is immanent.
These new paintings by Marisa Purcell present conditions that are all pervasive – atmospheric, changeable images that aren’t always noticed – and they are about to emerge.
Everything is in flux - in the next viewing the paintings will be different. The moment when our attention tunes in and ‘catches’ these fleeting images is the moment when the viewer brings the paintings to life.
The paintings enshroud the viewer – hinting at the notion that these conditions always exist around us – but are only noticed when attention is geared toward it.
Ambiguous and without prescription, this body of work engages viewers in an act of participation while creating new realities each time the paintings are encountered.
